Bird Strike Window Film

One of the more visually appealing models of large buildings are those with massive glass façades. Something about a massive overarching glass wall that reflects the visual world back at us is something that human beings seem to find universally alluring. However, other animals share our fascination with clear reflections and are not as apt as we are in being able to distinguish reflections from reality. That’s where bird strike film, like SolarGuard’s Wingsafe Bird Protection Film comes into play, helping avian conservation efforts one flap at a time.

Almost one billion (that’s billion, with a b) birds die every year from colliding with windows from which they cannot differentiate from the open air. We humans tend to like our windows as clean and clear ass possible, which poses a considerable threat to birds. This phenomenon has shown to greatly impact bird populations as well as migration corridors that are crucial to birds’ seasonal movements across the globe.

A fascinating and effective way of mitigating bird death from striking windows is bird strike film, like Wingsafe Bird Protection Film from SolarGuard. Wingsafe is an exterior window film (it is installed on the outside of a window rather than the inside) with designs embedded in it that aid birds in differentiating the sky’s reflection from clear flight paths. The designs use in Wingsafe films vary in color and intensity depending on what they call “Threat Factor.” That is, the threat that a window has towards oncoming bird traffic. A film with a threat factor of 4 is much more visible than a film with a threat factor of 15, which allows for more-or-less intense design patterns based on a building’s current approximation of bird collisions.
